What are the best monkey spots in Costa Rica?

You do not have to go anywhere or to Costa Rica to see monkeys. Because there is really no round trip unless you meet a herd of monkeys at least once. On our many trips to Costa Rica you sometimes encounter all four types.

These fascinating animals can be seen and photographed, especially on trips to many national parks in Costa Rica. It is also common for them to roam the hidden living quarters and be recommended while eating breakfast from the pit or sleeping in the sleeping area.

What species of monkeys exist in Costa Rica?

The four species of monkeys in Costa Rica are: Red-backed Squirrel Monkey, Nasturtium with White shoulders, Mantled Howler Monkey, and Geoffroy's Spider Monkey.

Squirrel monkey 

 It is the smallest representative of monkeys in Costa Rica and measures only 30 cm (without tail). In English it is called the Squirrel Monkey

They can usually be found in large groups (sometimes up to 300 animals!) And like to "circle" in the trees between the trees because they do not like trees or the forest floor.

Squirrel monkeys are highly dependent, even on humans. But also don't get upset. The closer you get to them, the more likely you are to be searched for nuts and fruits.

Squirrel monkeys are found all over the country, so a trip to Costa Rica passes without encountering a herd of squirrel monkeys.

A capuchin monkey with white shoulders

Capuchin monkeys can grow up to 46 cm (like all regular mammals measured outside the tail) and are among the most enthusiastic and shy monkeys in Costa Rica. They are named after their attractive fur, which reminds their recipients of capuchin monks' clothing.

Incidentally, white-faced monkeys called capuchin monkeys are called "White faced Capuchin" in English.

The white-shouldered capuchin lives all over the country - in the arid forest and in the mountains more than 2,500 m high. On a trip to Costa Rica, you may come across a herd of chewing monkeys.

They usually have shimmy from one mangrove tree to another in a herd of 20 to 30 animals. In those places where there are a lot of tourists, you actually find yourself in them - for example in the Manuel Antonio National Park. Visitors should not take it lightly there, as bags and backpacks are popular destinations. If you are planning to buy a capuchin monkey for sale, then you have come to the right place. Coat howler monkeys

Mantled Howler Monkey or Mono Congo. The most noisy monkey in Costa Rica, some say, is the world's most noisy mammal. And they are fun, soft and reach a height of 55 cm.

These animals make spectacular roaring sounds when they start early at 5 a.m. in the trees. After a while you get used to these strange sounds from the forest.

Early Europeans feared monkeys as noisy as jungle spirits. At first, the roar sounds threatening. Forest dwellers just want to communicate with each other and especially just tell other species of their species where they are.

The spider monkey Geoffroy

Geoffrey monkeys are the largest monkeys in Costa Rica at 63 cm. Spider monkeys (English "Spidermonkeys", Spanish "Mono Colorado") are the most skilled and fast-moving people in Costa Rica. With the help of their tail and extremely long limbs, they can be shimmy from one branch to another very quickly.

If you come across a herd of spider monkeys, be sure to take the time to watch this spectacle. It is impressive when 40 to 80 monkeys hike the mountains or play in the trees at about the same time.

However, it is not so easy to spot them. Spider monkeys are found throughout the country, although they are rare in the mountains. By comparison, however, they are always more withdrawn than capuchin monkeys.

The little monkey customer at the end: New World Monkeys vs. Old World Monkeys

Geography determines two distinct lines of monkeys: the New World monkeys from the United States, the Patriarchs, and the Old World monkeys from Africa and Asia, which are associated with large monkeys and humans such as the Catalan. New and Old World monkeys are best distinguished by the shape of the nose and the pattern of teeth.

All New World monkeys live in trees and have strong tails. Most Old World monkeys are also arboreal, but none of them have an open tail and some species of animals sometimes sit on the ground. Some Old World monkeys wear pads on their chests, which is not the case with any New World monkey.
